Teachers: Ms. Benson, Mr. Koski, Mr. Schmiechen
Grade 11
George Washington High School's AOHT program used the digital storytelling process to introduce basic hospitality terms and concepts as part of its first-year curriculum.
With a newly launched program just coming out of their Year-of-Planning, the teaching team wanted to involve all of the instructors — the Hospitality teacher, Ms. Benson; the IT resource specialist, Mr. Koski; and the English instructor, Mr. Schmiechen — in a joint activity that would engage their juniors in a hands-on presentation project.
Using their own homes and neighborhoods as a point of departure, students worked in pairs to develop a concept for a hotel and its requisite amenities. Students created mission statements for their proposed hotels, finished associated PowerPoint presentations, wrote and rehearsed voiceover scripts, and gathered digital assets to illustrate their digital stories.
