Teacher: Ms. Mar-Beshears
Grade 10
Ms. Mar-Beshears' tenth-grade AOIT English class used the personal narrative as the focus of a digital storytelling project that served as a culminating event for the spring semester. Students engaged in the writing process to compose autobiographical narratives on experiences that have shaped their lives. They concentrated their writing and revision work on a narrative based on a specific set of personal experiences and worked to communicate the significance of these events through the use of descriptive language and literary devices.
Working individually, students conducted Internet-based research to find digital images appropriate to their narratives and created storyboards to assist in organizing the presentation of their ideas. To support the oral presentation component of the project, students rehearsed the delivery of their written pieces, recorded their voiceovers, and saved the resulting sound files along with their other digital assets. Finally, working from their storyboards the students assembled their films during an in-class workshop, matching visuals to the narrative, integrating transitions, and experimenting with special effects and music to complete their projects.
