Grade 11

During the spring of 2007, a total of 27 AOF juniors from Mr. Singer's Business class and Ms. Bruzelius's English class completed a digital storytelling reflection project about two important program activities: student participation in the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which offers a school-based tax clinic for the local community, and individual preparation work for summer internships.

To compile footage for their digital storytelling project, students first worked with Ms. Bruzelius and Mr. Singer to brainstorm ideas, prompts, and responses for video interviews. With their thoughts collected, the students next addressed the camera and commented on a range of topics, including their motivation for joining AOF, the experience of teamwork and collaboration, specific aspects of the VITA program and tax preparation, and the challenges and benefits that result when real-world work opportunities are connected with the classroom, as well as how all of these varied Academy experiences help them prepare for internships and next steps toward college and careers. Then they worked in groups as they edited and shaped their interview material to present a picture of themselves and their Academy experience.
