Teachers: Ms. Dick, Mr. Rosenberg
Grade 11
Balboa AOIT's 11th grade academy class used the digital storytelling process as a publishing medium for their research into the many ways that technology is used in the city of San Francisco. Working in small groups, students researched, wrote about, and conducted interviews with experts in selected technology categories, ranging from satellites at NASA to the emergency response systems used by the fire department. From their research, students crafted voiceover scripts to teach their classmates about their topics.
This project incorporated 11th grade history standards related to how modern industrialization affects our lives today, and 11th grade English language arts standards involving the writing process and public speaking skills. The project provided the additional experience of communicating with adults in the workplace and emphasized the importance of time management, peer communication, and teamwork as students completed their short films.
