Grade 11
AOIT students used their knowledge of American literature and U.S. history to create three-minute digital storytelling projects about the American Dream. Participating students chose specific events in U.S. history as the focus of their projects and wrote and edited voiceover scripts to support their digital stories. Preparatory work took the form of traditional research and writing, culminating in two formal writing assignments: one summarizing and synthesizing their research, the other presenting personal reflections on the connections between the overarching concept of the American Dream and the historical focus and issues within the purview of their digital stories.
In addition to the writing work, students completed a formal video interview during which they presented aspects of their written personal reflections. Excerpts from the interviews were then integrated as introductory or concluding material for their digital stories. As the culmination of a set of core classes, the projects emphasized important technology pathway skills through video editing and learning to work confidently with digital media.
