During the winter and spring of 2005, the Pearson Foundation and NAF collaborated with selected AOIT programs on the West Coast to pilot an innovative video workshop, Capturing a Career, which documents students’ personal achievements and ambitions while highlighting a career academy’s program goals.
The workshop program focused on three cities: Seattle, San Francisco, and San Diego. Participating students completed a formal video interview, collected supporting digital images, and then assembled their own individual films highlighting their interests, skills, academic experience, and career goals. Each participant received a set of digital business cards that present his or her film along with a personal statement and resume. Students can use these personalized cards in applying for additional education or training, from internships to college applications to fellowship opportunities.
In the Seattle area, the pilot drew from three districts – Seattle, Highline, and Federal Way – and included students from five different schools: Decatur, Federal Way, Highline, Ingraham, and Tyee. Click below to view stories from twelve AOIT students in the Seattle area.
